Claire Verity is a British artist living and working in Ledbury, Herefordshire. Born in South Africa and growing up surrounded by landscapes and animals, she developed a love for horses early on-a fascination that has shaped her life's work. For over 35 years, she has supported herself through art, initially through drawing, painting, and commissioned animal portraits, and more recently by broadening her practice into sculpture. Claire's works are collected nationally and internationally.
Her art revolves around capturing the presence of animals-particularly horses and dogs-not just how they look but how they move, how they stand, the temperament behind posture. Her earlier work was strongly grounded in drawing and painting. These pieces show fine observation, anatomical accuracy, and sensitivity to light, shadow and environment.
In recent years Claire has produced several sculptural series, including pieces cast in bronze and Jesmonite, bringing three‑dimensionality to the equine and canine forms she has always cherished.
One highlight has been her collection VER V - Equus Albus, a limited edition Jesmonite on Welsh slate piece (edition of 150), which combines her sculptural ambition with her long experience in draughtsmanship and painting.
