Own Art
A painting with much more of a definite ‘vision’ from the beginning. The basis was a discovery on a walk. I found myself, almost suddenly, in a hidden, almost-hanging valley; which felt like being in the foothills of the Alps. The Lakeland landscape can be much like this.
Central to this landscape was a prominent outcrop of the hard slate which is dominant in my locality. This work became then, a reworking of a real place and I have used very local place names in the title. These names are particular and delightful, but being a painter of mostly invented places, I rarely get the chance to use them.
