Original lithographic poster. Designed and printed in 1972 for Joan Miró’s solo exhibition at Sala Gaspar in Barcelona, this original lithographic poster captures the artist’s late‑career exploration of pure form and symbolic abstraction.

Miró’s composition is a distilled visual language in which colour and sign cohere into something both playful and primordial. The yellow circular shape suggests celestial bodies or primal gestures while the black marks dance like calligraphic punctuation, a synthesis of Surrealist invention and the artist’s lifelong engagement with symbolic systems.

Sala Gaspar was one of Barcelona’s most influential galleries in the post‑war period, committed to presenting avant‑garde and international artists in dialogue with Catalonia’s own modernist traditions. Miró maintained a deep connection to his native Barcelona throughout his life, and this poster’s palette and forms echo the Mediterranean light and elemental shapes that recur across his work.

The image functions both as an emblem of the exhibition and as a standalone work: an iconic statement of Miró’s belief in poetry through abstraction, and a vivid testament to the continuing cultural vitality of Barcelona’s artistic institutions.
