Martin Greenland is an impassioned artist of great individuality, producing paintings that are part real and part invented, crafted with such authenticity and expertise that his compositions are wholly believable and convincing. He is a romantic painter of his home landscape in Cumbria, often introducing imagined architecture and other compositional elements from Mediterranean countries and beyond.
Martin attended Exeter College of Art from 1982 to 1985 and on graduating was awarded a First Class Degree in Fine Art. In 2000, he won the GCI Financial Purchase Prize at the prestigious Discerning Eye Exhibition, Mall Galleries, London. This was followed by a commission in 2003 to paint a picture of the newly rebuilt Paternoster Square, which was presented to the Lord Mayor of London and now hangs in The Mansion House.
In 2006, Martin won First Prize in the John Moores 24 Competition, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Greenland was also North of England Prize Winner of the Discerning Eye in 2013, and a Finalist in the Cumbria Life Culture Awards 'Visual Artist of the Year' in 2015.
It would seem that Martin Greenland's painting could become highly collectible in coming years.
